Welcome to the Second Annual Rio Grande Angus sale. We would like to thank all the people that attended or watched the sale last year, your support is greatly appreciated!
The past year was kinder to us here locally, we had average crops and were able to put up enough feed to get us through the winter comfortably. The high inflation cycle we are in has put a lot of pressure on input costs but luckily the commodity prices have risen to help make up the difference.
We are once again excited to host the sale at our farm west of Rio Grande. The offering we have this year should appeal to everyone no matter what type of bull your in search of. Out of our ET program we have sons of SAV America, Musgrave Stunner, and SAV Territory. Out of our walking bulls we have sons of Greenwood Fireball and Greenwood Gameday, also first progeny from our new bull SAV American Freedom sell along with another excellent Showman calf. The bulls are fed free choice hay and an 80/20 brown oat & bull supplement mixture, never exceeding 1% of body weight. We feed the bulls to meet their potential but not to jeopardize fertility and longevity.
We decided to go with an 80’s theme while naming bulls this year. You will see the Ewing brothers from Dallas, Thriller
(Michael Jackson), Alabama, Top Gun characters, Guns & Roses, Mark Messier, and Joe Montana. This should bring back some good memories for everyone! It sure did for us.
We are very pleased to have RR 40 Angus joining us this year, they are bringing top end bulls that you will want to look at! Danny and Lorinda are just wonderful people that share the same passion for cattle and breed leading genetics as we do. We have made a couple changes to this year’s sale. The sale time is pushed back to 4 pm. Immediately after the sale we will be hosting supper and hope everyone will join us for that.
We encourage everyone to stop by the farm anytime to view the bulls or heifers. We also have an open house the day before the sale, BBQ will be on as well that day. If you can’t, make it to the sale in person Anna or I can help you pick a bull that will fit your needs. This year we have Bohrson Marketing Service managing the sale any of the Bohrson reps would be able to help you before or during the sale. We also welcome Yancy from VJV Auctions as part of the sales team. As always DLMS will be broadcasting the sale. We look forward to meeting and hearing from you!

We are very pleased to welcome you to the Second Annual sale for Rio Grande Angus, Clint & Anna Collins and family at their ranch in their beautiful sale barn. On behalf of all of us at Bohrson Marketing, we are very proud to be working with this hard-working outfit in the promotion of their bull calf crop and select open heifers.
The 2023 sale offering is stacked with many options to suit any operation with powerful cow bulls and smooth-made calving ease prospects available throughout. The bulls are highlighted by some special individuals as results of their embryo transplant program. Bulls that come from matings by some of the most Elite donors in the industry as well as powerful donors that call Rio Grande home. These are exciting herd bull prospects backed by great cows and popular sires. The stout line up of walking herd bulls with sons offered for sale have done a great job such as Fireball, Game Day and American Freedom. These bulls are developed with longevity in mind and have been brought along gently to ensure they can go out and work for you and not break down. The six open heifers on offer from Rio Grande are a great example of what the cow herd has to offer and represent the powerful cow families. You’ll find they are from two sire groups, the tried and tested Fireball and the rookie drop off of Game Day.

This year we are pleased to welcome RR Forty Angus. Danny & Lorinda have brought a trio of great bulls for your appraisal that are raised and developed very similar to the Collins bulls. They are focusing on raising low-maintenance, high-performing Angus cattle that are sound-made and full of maternal quality. As you study their pedigrees and the bulls themselves, you will certainly get a feel for what they are looking to accomplish. A great set of bulls for their first trip to town!
We really encourage you to be with us at Rio Grande headquarters on March 20th for this offering of Angus stock with great hospitality. They all love to talk cattle and host people and we think this will be one of the must-attend events of the spring. Plan to come to the farm beforehand to view the bulls by setting up an appointment with Clint or Anna and tour the powerful mothers and sisters to this offering. We also encourage folks to contact and chat about the sale cattle beforehand to narrow down some options that will best suit your needs. If any of us listed from Bohrson Marketing can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us and utilize our free, industry-leading order buying and consultation services. We look forward to visiting with you on the cattle!

Sire to these two ET bulls is the SAV America 8018. He is the world record selling bull, selling for 1.5 million in 2019. His 205 weaning weight was 1,107lbs.
The dam of America 8018 is SAV Black Cap May 5440, a full sister to SAV Sensation and a direct daughter of the legendary Black Cap May 4136.
These two flush brothers, JR and Bobby, are extremely sound genetically. From the ground up they are structurally correct, having tons of natural muscle, with deep bodies and natural thickness. They both display docility and all around masculinity. Lots of eye appeal and style! We can’t wait to see these guys out working. They will make excellent cow bulls.

SAV Territory 7225 is a son of SAV Resource. The dam of this Territory bull is Brooking Beauty 333. This dam is a herd-leading donor, massive in her dimension and body shape, and great-uddered. She has 90+ calves registered to her.
We purchased 3 embryos from Brooking Angus. To say this embryo pairing excited us is an understatement! We were very happy to get a female and a bull! Thriller has stood out since he was on mother’s milk. He has length of body, strength of top line, natural thickness, depth of rib, masculinity, a smooth shoulder, with overall style and soundness. He will catch your eye immediately and makes Thriller a favourite in the bull pen this year!

Musgrave 316 Stunner is a sire known for his muscle shape, depth of body, and consistency in having calving ease.
Our donor dam, Barbara of Ring Creek 7U (PHE 7U) is an Elite dam in the CAA and rightfully so. The purchase of the Ring Creek Cows at their dispersal sale was instrumental in building our herd. 7U and her calves are structurally sound from the ground up, displaying generous length of spine, a beautiful front.
When considering mating the combination of 7U and Musgrave 316 Stunner interested us and we feel the combination was perfect. Maverick and Viper are almost identical. Both display the traits we love about 7U and Stunner. Powerful with a massive rib, muscular, great length of spine, and sound-footed. Both very impressive bulls.

This bull follows closely to his sire in regards to power and muscle, and combined with the long-bodied, broody, balanced, stylish HF dam…we feel he will really add some pounds to calves in the fall.

Our Amazing Kids
Tyler works for Cenovus and enjoys his job. A farm boy through and through. Over all the years he has helped us immensely with the cattle, haying and hauling hay. On the grain side of our operation, he has also been a blessing. He is naturally mechanically minded and has endless energy.
Sydney may not be a farm kid but she is very much a farm woman now, helping combine and bring meals has helped us tremendously! Faith has taught her some horseback riding and she has been part of halter breaking young calves.
These two are known as the Young Crew - the Late Night Combine Crew
Y A T T
Wyatt is just finishing up his 4th year electrical certification at GPRC. He works for North Gate Electric. We are very proud and thankful for him. He did all the electrical for our calving/sale barn and electrical work around the farm is done by him.
Wyatt has always helped with cows having a few cows of his own, as well as selling a few of his own bulls. He is also a member of the Young Crew - Grain Hauler and Combine Driver Extraordinaire!
Wyatt played for the Grande Prairie Athletics this year.
Faith this year is in grade 11 and is attending LCBI high school in Outlook, Saskatchewan. She is absolutely loving it there and has been accepted into the community with open arms.
She was very thankful to go to Agribition with Justin Fox in November and got the opportunity to help and show cattle! Truly a highlight for her. The Fox family is a very hardworking and kind family.
Once it warms up (Saskatchewan is cold with that wind) she plans to tour around and look at some of her favourite breeders in Saskatchewan. Clint did fly down and take her to the Brooking Angus Female sale in November, Faith said it was a dream come true! lol Faith loves farm life and has always helped where needed on the farm. She truly loves anything cattle related.
Our Fantastic Help
N O A H
Noah Goodbrand has helped us on the farm now for a whole year. We appreciate his great help and endless energy. Any job from cow feeding, haying, bale loading, combine driving, lawn mowing, helping halter break calves for Faith to show - he has a smile on his face! We sure appreciate his help and good work ethic.
Ashley White has been with us off and on since he was in high school. He lives with his wife Chloe and family not far from us and has Hereford cattle. He is a super hard worker and is very knowledgeable about pretty much everything we do here. He is extremely mechanical and has been a big help getting the crop in and off each year, as well as helping with processing cattle, halter breaking and many of the never-ending farm jobs!

Gameday is a bull we purchased from Greenwood at their 2020 bull sale. His sire, Bar EL Natural Law, is known for his wonderful daughters. This fall a lot of the high selling females at purebred sales were Natural Law cows. Gameday’s dam, Tibbie 28Z, is a donor cow at Greenwood and her progeny also have been very popular. We, unfortunately, lost him during the heat wave in 2021 so this is his last crop of calves. His calves are great-haired, sound-footed and have good style and balance.

On behalf of Lorinda and I, we welcome you to the Second Annual Rio Grande Bull and Female Sale. We are extremely excited and grateful to be working with Clint and Anna.
Growing up in Manitoba is where my passion for cattle began. I can still remember the day our first Black Angus bull stepped off the trailer in 1984. I told my dad someday I was going to sell bulls like this.
For the past 15 years I have been raising Angus Cross commercial cattle near Sexsmith. When we decided on our new venture into the purebred Angus business, we wanted to start with topend genetics from top-end producers such as Hamilton farms, Poplar Meadows, Remitall Farms, Belvin Angus, and Mar Mac Farms.
We have put together a cow herd based around efficient females with strong maternal traits that are sound, structured and consistent. Whether buying herd bulls or selecting AI sires, we have selected for strong cow families and maternal strengths to produce quality females. Our goal is to raise functional cattle that will work with any program. Cattle with the right amount of calving ease and yet will add pounds come the fall.
I would like to take the time to thank Jason & Niki McQuaig, Ricky & Cathy Leger, Brady Fraser, Clint & Anna Collins, as well as so many other great friends and neighbours for all your help getting us started. We could not achieve our goals without you!
We would like to encourage you to give us a call, or stop by to look at our operation. We enjoy nothing more than visiting and discussing cattle.
Thank you, Danny & Lorinda

When purchasing bred heifers from Hamilton Farms, I asked Rob and Gail to pick us out what they considered to be foundation females. They nailed it with HF Bride 230H. She is a long-bodied, deep-sided cow with a near perfect udder. We see a huge future for her in our program. Her first calf, RR Forty Alcatraz, started out at 72lbs and weaned off early Sept at 830lbs. His sire, HF Alcatraz 60F, was purchased by Bar-E-L and Cowtrax for $200,000 for ½ interest. 02K Has a stacked pedigree with May Way Breakout, HF Mayflower 191Z, Bar-E-L Bride 4F, and HF Tiger 5T. He’s long, smooth-made and has tremendous width. 02K should calve easy and add pounds in the fall. You will want to retain the daughters for your herd. He is very docile and has a set of incredible EPD’s.
